Beauty and The Beast Cool Facts

First Animated Film Nominated for an Oscar – When Disney released Beauty and the Beast in 1991, it was the first animated movie ever to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. This was a huge honor!

Based on a French Fairy Tale – The story of Beauty and the Beast was originally a French fairy tale written by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve in the 1700s. It's been retold many times, but Disney’s version is the most famous today.

Incredible Ballroom Scene – The famous ballroom scene, where Belle and the Beast dance together, was groundbreaking for its time. Disney used a mix of traditional animation and new computer animation, making it look like the camera was swooping around them. It was a big deal in 1991!

The Beast Is a Mix of Animals – The animators designed the Beast by combining features of different animals. He has the mane of a lion, the beard and head shape of a buffalo, the tusks of a wild boar, the body of a bear, and the tail of a wolf. This mix helped make him look unique and memorable!

Belle Was Inspired by Audrey Hepburn – Belle's character was inspired by actress Audrey Hepburn. The animators wanted Belle to look kind and intelligent, so they gave her expressive eyes and a simple, elegant look.
